This kayak is intended primarily as a recreational/touring boat geared toward the intermediate paddler. This is most likely the fastest sit-on-top kayak in its class. As a result, I’ve discovered that it’s a great fishing boat for when you need to cover a lot of water.
I’ve enclosed a number of pictures of my boat, which is the Angler version with the optional bow hatch.
Once I picked up my boat (and my wife’s), I had to go get it wet. This is a shot taken before I added my hatches and rod holders. The beverage holder worked great !
It took me about 10 minutes to get used to the paddling characteristics of this boat, since it’s not your typical flat bottom fishing vessel. I still haven’t gotten over the speed. I didn’t have my GPS on hand, so I don’t know what sort of numbers she has, but it was impressive. Due to the hull design, it tracks very straight, very fast, and has significant ‘glide’ once you stop paddling. I got spoiled pretty quick. I like to fish ‘side saddle’ a lot, and this boat handled that with no worries. I also discovered that the beverage holders works great to hold a small selection of soft baits and also doubles as a makeshift rod holder while changing lures.
After the maiden voyage was over, it was time to start cutting on it. I added the center hatch, Scotty #281 rod holder on the console, and 2 flush mount rod holders behind the seat – all of which makes up the “Angler” package. I also added the bow hatch.
Tackle trays fit nicely in the center hatch
7 ½’ rods also fit nicely in the center hatch
Rods in cockpit hatch
Your paddle will fit in the front hatch, as will rods, etc.
The angler model will have a Scotty #281 rod holder on the console
Here’s how she looks in dry dock
And, here’s how she looks with some rods
Finally, here are a couple shots taken out on the water after rigged it
pag_yaker, looks very nice, my question would be what is your size/weight and do you take water thru the scuppers? Nice cockpit hatch and a nice front hatch, Oh no, are manufacturers starting to listen

I clock in at around 225 lbs, and had very little water in the front scuppers. Thwe scupper holes are actually smaller than what you find on most boats, so that also helps kep you drier.
Is the "Maverick" the "Mojo" ? Was the name changed before marketing? Or is there a "Mojo" still in the works? Maybe I missed something somewhere, but it looks like the artist's rendering of the Mojo.

What's the bottom of the hull look like? Keel? Flat bottom? Do the scupper holes open up on the lowest portion of the hull or are they recessed some in a tracking channel like the Tarpon?
Very interesting layout for a boat. If it handles well it could give the tarpon a run for its money for river fishermen.

I like the idea of the bungie straps over the front hatch. I was thinking of a way to get a better seal on my front hatch on my Fisherman,as it tends to get quite a bit of water past the hatch in rough chop. I think the bungie straps, installed as on the maverick, will fix the problem. I think it will put some downward pressure on the hatch to give it a better seal. Great idea, glad I came up with it!

I don't know that those bungees offer enough pressure to aid the seal of that front hatch, but it surely couldn't hurt.
This is a honey of a boat, and though it may not give the T120 crowd a run for their money, it will deinitely be a "step up" boat for a seasoned paddle angler.
Did I mention it was fast ?
I'd love to put it to the GPS test, but I haven't had time.
Looks like an interesting yak and I will have to wait for Jon's road test firs, but at 55 lbs for a 12 footer, I find it quite heavy... About the same weight as some 14 and 15 footers.
Anyway, I went to the Emotion site and looked up the flyer on the yak. I enjoyed learning more about the Maverick, but I especially liked the "special features."

Derrick and I took the Maverick out the other day. We feel that it's too reactive and because of this we won't be stocking it. So it anyone wants a great deal on a once used Maverick give us a hollar as we'll be listing it shortly.
Too many places to fish and not enough time, but I'm trying.
