I just picked up my first Kayak, an Ocean Prowler Big Game. For I feel a pretty good price. I got it for $559 on clearance from the Gander Mountain by me. I'm 6'5" and even though it is a wide kayak I seem to be able to keep up with my wife paddling a Venus 11. Anyways I have a couple of questions I hope some people here could help me out with.

First is that the rear rod holders come with like a plastic cap on the bottom of them. One of the caps was off when I bought the kayak. I don't see anyway to put it back on without pulling the rod holder out which looks like it would require getting a new gasket or putting in a hatch to get access to the back of the kayak. Are these caps even needed or do they always come off? I'm not sure how much water you'd really take on through the rod holder anyways.

Second question is the about installing the anchor clam cleat. I don't see anyway to install this using the screws and nuts that came with it since I can't really get that far back in the boat without putting in a hatch. Should I just use rivets? If I decide to put other rod holders on will rivets work well for those also?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

First off yes you need to have the caps on the bottom of the rod holders, if not the caps than you can stuff something inside of it to plug them and secondly I would go with nuts and bolts if that's not an option than my second choice would be rivets and third well nuts.

Good luck and don't forget the pics

FISH ON!!!!!!!!!!!

There are many locations on the Big Game to be able to use Stainless Steel lock nuts, and bolts .....The round back area will fit a 4" deck plate that measures approx 6" in diameter ....You can install a hatch in front of the seat that covers anything you want to mount mid yak , and the front hatch covers the front area .... I didn't bother with the 2 round rod holder areas in the front of the B.G. as you would need Gorilla arms to reach them ...With the lock nuts and bolts/screws you can use a backing plate also to strengthen whatever you are attaching ...It's just a better job IMHO ...Jim

PS ...GREAT PRICE on the B.G. !!!...At that price , I'd buy a 2nd one !!!...
