Another top day out with the AKFF fellow kayakers, even though the wind was blowing and the chop was up

In we went with the Kayaks, and started to troll for those big fish , I had a stump jumper(pink) and an SX40 rigged.
Got the paddling underway into a stiff wind, scenery was very nice, for some reason you seem to see more from a yak than a boat .

Paddled around for a while with not much doing, first fish came up near the rock walls with a nice little pike, after that a couple tailor not much to write home about.

Headed back toward the boat ramp, was now a little complacent as not much was going on...then noticed I was about to go over quite a few weed beds, and thought to myself theres gotta be something in here, well...the rod suddenly keeled over and the yak started to pull around..bloody hell great time to get a snag I thought..grabbed to rod and gave it a bit of a yank....pump pump..it was not snag, there was a fish on! and not a small one at that..I thought flathead then was pulling it up, lookted silvery maybe a jew...then is came closer wow, it was a Croc  , line ripped off the reel, had to feather it with my fingers and take it easy...after a few minutes it finally came close enough for the lip grippers to reach...

A nice 74cm Lizard...my biggest so Far, caught on 6lb with an SX40, was released to make more Flathead.

All in all a top day despite the wind.

Well its about time one of you blokes popped back up on the forum. For awhile there I thought you guys went "under"!! Just kidding, nice size fish, but boy they are ungly things. I don't beleive we have any of those here, if we do, they aren't that big. But anyway, great catch, looks like a beautiful place there to yak fish.

Yeah, we are still around, havent gone "under" yet Smile

They are quite an ugly fish but very nice to eat, although all the ones over about 70cm are breeders.

Its a very nice place to paddle especially without the wind.

Will try keep a few reports up so you can see what sorta fish are being caught dowun under.

Dan
