G'day Kiwi yak fishers.... Wasssaaappp ? Or am I the only one ? Can anyone give me some pointers about a) where to find kingfish from a yak in the Hauraki gulf/Auckland area b)kingfish tactics c) good rods for kingfish from a yak ?

I am Auckland based with a Hobie Outback. You may well have seen them advertised in the NZ fishing mags. If you are wondering about whether or not they are worth the money I can tell you I think mine is - this is not an unreserved endorsement but for my purposes it is absolutely brilliant.

Stobbo.

I would love to catch kingfish from a kayak.

Too many places to fish and not enough time, but I'm trying.

JonS.
I think in the states your call them Yellowtail, we call them kingfish down under. I also think they grow a bit bigger down here, seriously big in fact. catching what we would call a bigin would need some serious tackle, several free (and open)km's of water. Needless to say they would get a good viewing of a wide range of coastline.

Yes they are called yellowtail here and yes the NZ ones grow twice as large. I'd love to catch some small ones in the 30-50# range down there. 2 Thumbs Up
